Cong. Burgess Applauds Tax Plan, Says Military Funding Essential

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KLIF/WBAP) — Congressman Michael Burgess says even though things have been busy on Capitol Hill, the country needs a permanent plan to fund our military.

Thursday morning, Dr. Burgess joined The Morning Drive. He says he’s quite proud of lawmakers for coming together to pass the first major overhaul to taxes in more than 30 years.

Congressman Burgess says two pieces of legislation tied to that tax overhaul package will make it easier for Americans when it comes to healthcare. One is the portion of the plan that repeals the so-called “individual mandate” from Obamacare, requiring Americans to have health insurance. The second allows Americans to deduct medical expenses after they surpass 7.5% of their income. Previously, the threshold had been 10%.

He says he’ll work closely with both Democrats and Republicans to get a permanent funding plan in place for the federal government before the Midnight Friday deadline.

That’s because a military spending plan is tied to that measure.
