DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A former Farmers Branch Police Officer will be sentenced early next year in the 2016 murder of a local teenager.
Ken Johnson was found guilty by a Dallas County jury Tuesday, in the Murder of 16-year-old Jose Cruz. He was also found guilty of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for injuring another teen in the same shooting.
Prosecutors said that Johnson had malicious intent when he shot the two teenagers after catching them breaking into his car. Cruz was killed and the other teen was hurt, but survived. Families of Johnson and Cruz were both emotional after the verdict. The jury began deliberating Monday afternoon and came to a decision after lunch Tuesday.
Sentencing is scheduled for January 8.
