“Take Back Oak Lawn” Issues Advisory As Police Investigate Multiple Attacks Near Cedar Springs

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Dallas advocacy group has issued a warning to Dallas residents who live near Cedar Springs and Oak Lawn Avenue as police investigate at least several assaults that occurred within the last six months.

Take Back Oak Lawn, an advocacy group formed in Dallas largest LGBT neighborhood after a series of attacks in 2015 and 2016, issued a warning on its Facebook page.

The most recent attack occurred at the Kroger in the 4100 block of Cedar Springs just after sunset.

44-year-old Duvall Savage told WFAA TV he was called a homosexual slur and physically attacked him as he left the store.

He said one of three male suspects swung a 2×4 board and hit him in the leg, shattering his knee.

Take Back Oak Lawn said these assaults were found to be motivated by hate and the group is urging area residents to be on high alert.
