Horace Shaw III

Cedar Hill, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – A Dallas firefighter is facing a charge of Intoxication Manslaughter stemming from a rollover crash in Cedar Hill that killed an 18-year-old and her unborn baby.

The Dallas Fire Department said it has placed 45-year-old Horace Shaw III on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

The Cedar Hill Police Department’s Lieutenant Colin Chenault said the accident happened on north Highway 67 at Beltline around 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

Shaw was off duty at the time of the crash but investigators said he had been drinking at a bar in Dallas before the fatal accident.

He said the fireman was driving a white Mercedes at a high rate of speed when he struck the back of a maroon Mazda SUV, driven by the deceased, causing it to roll several times.

The Cedar Hill police department issued a statement to the victims and their families.

“Our sincerest condolences go out to Ms. Pimentel’s family and friends for their losses. We are also mindful of her passenger and his family,” said the statement.

Pimentel’s family also issued a statement about their devastating loss.

We are currently shaken and saddened by the tragic events that occurred today. Alyssa was our one and only daughter carrying our grandson and their whole lives ahead of them. We are very disappointed with the fact that an individual who is tasked with saving lives is responsible for taking the lives of our family members. As you can imagine, our grief right now is immeasurable. We are aware that there is an investigation into the accident and we trust that the authorities will be diligent in seeking justice for Alyssa and Baby Josiah. We would appreciate privacy during this process and we ask the public for their prayers for our family as we grieve.

Respectfully,

Joe and Jayne Pimentel,” said the family.
