Son of Former TX Governor Runs For Top Post

Austin (AP) Andrew White, son of former Democratic Gov. Mark White, has launched a bid to unseat Republican Gov. Greg Abbott next year. White is only the second major Democratic candidate to formally enter the race. Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez announced she was running for the seat Wednesday in Austin. White’s dad was governor from 1983 to 1987 – when Texas was still solidly Democratic controlled – and also served as state attorney general for four years.
