ROWLETT (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Rowlett Police Department is urging parents to be on alert following a report about a possible child predator.
The department’s Cruz Hernandez said on Monday, a man approached some kids and offered them candy as they walked home from Rowlett Elementary School on Carla Drive near Miller Road.
He said parents need to make sure their kids know how to handle these types of situations.
“Keep your kids informed and make sure that they have the knowledge on what to do,” he said.
Hernandez said in this particular situation, the kids’ quick thinking worked.
“The kids stayed together, they immediately notified a parent, the parent’s talked to each other and within 20 minutes the police were being called,” he said.
The suspicious man is white, in his mid twenties and drives a black four-door car.
Hernandez said at this time there has been no crime committed but investigators want to speak with the man in question to rule out any danger.
“It’s very uncommon for an adult to approach children. In this case, we just want to talk to the man to determine what his motive was,” he said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the department.
