Medical Experts Offer Tips for a Safe Thanksgiving Holiday

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Medical experts are reminding the public to be safe this Thanksgiving and not just in the kitchen.

Medstar’s Matt Zavadsky said many people will be hitting the road for the holidays and that can make for potentially dangerous situations while driving.

“One of the things that we see, especially if you’re traveling there are a lot more people in the car and a lot more things in the car which can be very distracting. So, please remember if you’re the driver, always keep your eyes on the road that is your primary purpose,” he said.

Experts agree that if you’re taking a long road trip, it’s best to rotate drivers.

In the mad dash to get on the road, Zavadsky said people often forget to bring essential items that many people use daily…like medications.

“Make sure that wherever you’re traveling that you’re going to bring any medications. So, if you’re a diabetic or have a heart condition, bring those medications with you so that you can take those wherever you are while you’re away from home,” he said.

Zevadsky said its wise to double check your belongings to be on the safe side whether your’re leaving your house for the day or traveling out of town.
