Families of the Sutherland Springs Shooting Victims to Receive Help with Funeral Expenses

SUTHERLAND SPRINGS  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The families of the victims in the mass shooting at the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs will receive state-run funding and private donations to ease the burden of the funeral expenses.

The Crime Victim’s Compensation Fund set up through the Texas Attorney General’s Office will allow for each family to receive $6500.

“That fund releases money for the victim’s families including funeral expenses,” said Wilson County District Attorney Gossett Louis.

She also announced that a local business is offering free caskets to all of the families who lost a loved on in the shootings.

It’s much-needed relief for a community to bury 26 of its own. The victims ranged in age from 18 months to 77 years old.

The gunman responsible for the shooting, Devin Kelly, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound a few miles from the scene of the massacre.

Authorities are still working to find a motive for the shooting.
