New Katy Trail Pedestrian Bridge over Mockingbird Lane is Finally Open

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – The much delayed Katy Trail pedestrian bridge over Mockingbird Lane is finally open. Construction of the bridge was approved in a 2006 bond election.

Work on it began in 2013, but there were delays. Some of the property that had to be acquired changed hands during the process. Some of it more than once. That took years to clear up.

Then once construction actually started, work crews ran into several underground pockets of fuel, creating more delays.

During all of that several pedestrians were injured trying to cross Mockingbird, including movie critic Gary Murray who was hit and killed there. The bridge finally opened to foot traffic Thursday morning.

The official celebration will be held Saturday in nearby Glencoe Park.
