Senator John Cornyn thinks Texas could be stiffed on Hurricane Harvey relief

Washington (WBAP/KLIF) – Senator John Cornyn is worrying about the future of Hurricane Harvey relief for Texas. Governor Greg Abbott says the state needs $61 billion. Cornyn says he has been assured by both the White House and U.S. House leaders that the request will be taken up this month, however he’s worried that it’ll be rolled into the omnibus spending bill that’s up for consideration in December. He doesn’t think Congress has the votes to pass that, so a stopgap measure will make it through instead. Cornyn says his experience tells him that if that happens Texas and other disaster areas will not get the relief they’ve been promised.
