DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Real Estate Council of Dallas is hosting its first-ever “Shark Tank” to highlight investment and economic development opportunities in South Dallas.
Linda McMahon is the council’s CEO and said Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings will speak at this week’s event.
“They will talk a little bit about economic development and what it takes to actually be an entrepreneur and create new business,” he said.
The goal of the event is to spark growth in an area that has not seen the type of redevelopment happening in other areas in the Metroplex.
“The idea behind it is to really highlight and identify investment opportunities for developers who are trying to develop in Southern Dallas and encourage economic development,” she said.
The critically acclaimed Emmy-award winning show has been a hit with viewers for nine seasons.
McMahon said the council thought hosting a Dallas version would be a clever way to help revitalize South Dallas.
“We’ve seen how difficult it is to identify opportunities. We thought that this would be a great way to help identify some opportunities but also bring the larger commercial real estate industry into play,” she said.
A panel of well-known real-estate developers will be presented with three project proposals for South Dallas.
Each investor has committed to giving funding up to $500,000.
The event will be held at Gilley’s on Thursday at 6 p.m.
