Arlington Police Say Gunman Who Opened Fire on Officers Had Long Criminal Record

Vincent Hall

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Arlington Police Department released new details about the suspect who opened fire on police officers attempting to serve a warrant Tuesday afternoon.

An 11-year-veteran officer was shot multiple times and is recovering in the hospital. A bullet grazed a second officer in the hand during gunfire.

The department’s Lieutenant Chris Cook said the Narcotics Unit were attempting to execute a search warrant for Vincent Jawan Hall at a home on Kelly Hill Drive near Green Oaks.

Investigators believe that someone inside the residence looked out a rear window and saw SWAT officers approaching and alerted the people inside.

Cook said Hall began shooting at officers with an AR-15 rifle as they entered the front door. He said 5 officers returned fire which resulted in Hall’s death.

Once the scene was cleared, detectives found marijuana, cocaine, Xanax and hydrocodone pills.

Detectives with the Narcotics Unit had been prepared to deal with a tense altercation with Hall because he had had a previous run in with the Arlington Police Department.

Hall allegedly assaulted multiple officers, tried to grab an officer’s tazer and took off on foot.

He was later arrested in Kentucky on various charges including Evading Detention, Resisting Arrest and multiple counts of Attempting to Take a Weapon From a Police Officer.

Four people that were in the house during the shooting were detained after the incident and three were released.

One man, identified as Billy Nevels, was arrested for outstanding misdemeanor warrants out of Dalworthington Gardens.
