SCOTUS to Hear Privacy Cases

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) — The US Supreme Court will soon hear cases involving digital privacy.

Yesterday, they announced they’re taking up a case that could determine how much evidence criminal investigators can get off computers overseas.

Law enforcement officials have said restrictions have hampered sex and drug trafficking investigations for decades.

Supreme Court justices will also be taking a look at the 1986 Stored Communications Act, and how it pertains to “cloud computing.”

Legal scholars point out that the act was written long before the internet was widely available, and should be updated.

Dave & Amy spoke with South Texas College of Law professor Josh Blackman for his take on the cases.
