DART Stations in Downtown Dallas See an Uptick in Crime

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Recent statistics show that DART rail stations in downtown Dallas have a higher crime rate than other stations, and it continues to rise.

The sale use of synthetic drugs is a big problem at the West End Station. Between January and August of this year more than 150 K-2 arrests were made at that station alone. Arrests have increased by 15% at platforms in Dallas’ Central Business District, which includes 6 platforms.

Dallas City Council members discussed the statistics at Monday’s Public Safety & Criminal Justice Committee meeting.

“We keep enforcing and we keep not necessarily getting the results we want to see,” Council Member Phillip Kingston said.

Kingston said the Dallas Police Department, Dart Police, and other agencies need to work together to establish a presence to bring the crime down.

“Perception is reality,” said Dallas Police Chief U. Renee Hall. “So we have to do a better job of making sure that we are visible. This collaboration helps us be visible at those key times.”

Dallas has 46 DART rail stations in the city. The stations with the most concentrated crime are Central Business District, Deep Ellum, Bachman, Park Lane, Morrell, and Kiest.
