AAA Says “Infotainment Systems” Are Dangerous Distractions While Driving

DALLAS  (WBAP/KLIF News) – AAA said “infotainment systems”, the consoles that provide radio, navigation and text message capability in your new car are a real safety hazard for drivers.

“Automakers took one step forward then two steps back when it comes to the in-vehicle technology systems. While the design have improved in some cases, automakers have provided too many functions unrelated to the core focus of driving,” said AAA’s Daniel Armbruster.

He said the new functions were not meant to be performed while driving.

“Sending text messages, checking social media, even surfing the web while you’re behind the wheel. Drivers have no business doing anything but focusing on driving while they’re behind the wheel,” he said.

A study done by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows that drivers who remove their eyes from the road for two seconds double their risk for getting into a crash.
