Two Richardson ISD Students Punished For Posting Racial Meme Against Rival Football Team on Social Media

RICHARDSON (WBAP/KLIF News) – Two schools in the Richardson Independent School District came together in a show of unity this week after two students posted racially insensitive photos on social media.

This week was “rivalry week” between J.J. Pearce and Richardson High Schools.

District spokesperson Chris Moore said two J.J. Pearce students posted images online with the school logos photoshopped in.

“Essentially they were depicting one of the high schools in a more subservient role is the best way I can describe it,” he said.

One image showed a Ku Klux Klan cross burning with the school logos posted on top of the photo.

“There were racial undertones, cultural undertones, ethnic undertones and societal undertones that have taken place over the course of the last five to six years,” he said.

Another image used the racial tensions in Ferguson, Missouri…using photos of Michael Brown and former Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.

Wilson killed Brown in a shooting that sparked a riot and protests nationwide.

At Thursday night’s football game, both school bands played the national anthem together as a sign of unity.

“We were able to come together at the beginning of the game as a show of unity to have the bans from each school together on the field to perform the national anthem and then their respective school fight song,” said Moore.

He said the students were disciplined by the school.
