Garland Teen in Critical Condition After Being Shot in the Head By Friend Playing With Gun

GARLAND  (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Garland teenager is in critical condition after one of his friends shot him in the head while they were playing with a gun.

The Garland Police Department’s Alberto Irizarry said the victim was hanging out with two friends at a home on Burning Tree Lane near North Jupiter Road Tuesday night, when they started behaving “recklessly” with a gun.

The alleged shooter, identified as 17-year-old Andy Xavier Erives, took off after the incident but was quickly arrested by police.

“He told them right away, the officers wanted to read him his rights, but he said right away ‘I did it’ he was sad,” said Irizarry.

At this time, investigators believe it the shooting was not done out of malice. Irizarry said the shooting is a tragic reminder about the importance of gun safety.

“If you have a gun in your home, please educate your family about it. Juveniles handling guns is a very bad decision,” he said.

Erives is facing an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge but could face a manslaughter charge if the victim dies.
