DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The removal of the statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in Lee Park has been stopped after a temporary restraining order was filed in Dallas County.
The Dallas City Council voted 13 to 1 on Wednesday to have the statue removed immediately and placed in storage until a task force decides what to do with it.
Once the vote was finalized, crews immediately began to work on taking the statue down amidst a small crowd of people who were for and against the removal.
The restraining order was filed against Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings by a man named Hiram Patterson with the Texas Division of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans and signed by Judge Sidney Fitzwater.
There will be a hearing on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. to discuss the issue.
