GARLAND (WBAP/KLIF) – A suspicious backpack was found outside a Garland ISD building this morning. Lt. Pedro Barineau said the Gilbreath-Reed Career and Technical School was evacuated as a precaution.
“Our bomb unit was notified,” Barineau said. “They determined that there was nothing inside that package that was explosive. The only thing that was inside the backpack was money.”
Barineau said the money in the bag appeared to be fake and could have been dropped off as a joke. Garland PD is using the school districts surveillance system to determine who left the bag and why.
No suspects have been identified yet.
