Irving (WBAP/KLIF) – The U.S. Geological Survey reports a 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck Friday morning in Irving near the old Texas Stadium site.
The USGS says it was centered five kilometers deep. So far there are no reports of damage, but many residents say it was impossible to ignore.
“The whole house was shaking,” said Irving resident Lisa Rivera. “I mean, it shook bad. The first thing I did was run outside to see if anything was damaged, but this is not the first time this has happened here.”
Westwood One Radio Host Eric Harley lives in Farmers Branch and said he was awake looking into a storm system developing west of the Metroplex.
“All of a sudden, I heard what sounded like thunder,” Harley said. “I hear this rumbling and I’m thinking it can’t be thunder, because the storms are west of [Farmers Branch]. And as that basically rolling thunder gets under your property, it shakes the rafters. This was a pretty big one that I’ve experienced.”
Many on social media have posted about feeling the quake, with people saying they felt it in Irving, Las Colinas, North Dallas, Farmers Branch, Carrollton, and Coppell.
Irving has been the center of a handful of earthquakes over the last few years.
