Dallas ISD to Hold Community Meeting on Proposed $14 Million Budget Cut

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Dallas Independent School District is holding a community meeting for parents and teachers Wednesday night on the proposed $14 million budget cuts to the school district.

Allison Brim with the ‘Texas Organizing Project’ said the cuts are in addition to the estimated $60 million the district has already been forced to cut from next year’s budget.

“It’s been a trend that has been going on for several years now due to our state and federal officials inability to properly fund our schools,” she said.

Brim said that there is an opportunity for the district to make up for some of the financial loss.

“What we’re asking our DISD school board to do is to take matters in their own hands and take advantage of a local funding opportunity to make sure our schools have the resources that they need,” she said.

DISD trustees will vote this Friday on whether to allow voters to decide if they want to raise the money the schools needs through a tax ratification election.

The meeting will take place tonight at 6 at the Alliances Offices.
