DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — It’s back-to-school season, which means the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is starting its annual crackdown on selling booze to minors.
The TABC has been doing undercover stings on gas stations, liquor stores, bars, and restaurants this time of year for a few years now. The organization says 90 percent of establishments they visit are compliant, though to some, that’s not nearly enough.
“Anytime you have a single sale of alcohol to a minor, that could leave to drunken driving arrests,” said TABC spokesman Chris Porter. “It could lead to serious bodily injury or even death.”
The TABC will focus on college towns, so for North Texas, that includes Fort Worth, Denton, and Arlington.
Porter said the biggest culprits during their sting operations are bars and restaurants.
“We have noticed more violations taking place at those locations,” Porter said. “So we’ve stepped up our efforts over the past several years to visit more of those types of locations so we can get those retailers back on the path towards compliance.”
The crackdowns will last throughout August and September.
