Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – Dallas may remove monuments to Confederate leaders. Several members of the city council want Dallas to remove the Confederate War Memorial next to the Dallas Convention Center.
“I’m suggesting we must have this conversation,” says Mayor Mike Rawlings. “The question is how to have the conversation productively.”
Rawlings says Dallas will work with the non-profit, Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation and the Dallas Holocaust Museum on how to move forward.
“We must use this group in a productive manner to think through all the future issues we have on race,” Rawlings says.
Councilman Philip Kingston had asked Rawlings to add the issue to the council’s agenda. Rawlings says the task force will work for 90 days to develop recommendations.
The city’s Office of Cultural Affairs will then present the information to the city council, which will take public comment before making a final decision.
