Death of Bedford Teen Discovered in Arlington Landfill Ruled a Homicide

BEDFORD (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s has ruled the death of 14-year-old Kaytlynn Cargill a homicide.

The report said the teenager died due to “homicidal violence”.

Cargill vanished while walking her dog near the Oak Creek Apartments on June 19th. Her body was discovered June 21st in the nearby Republic Services landfill in Arlington.

While she was still considered missing, some questioned why an Amber Alert wasn’t issued.

The Bedford Police Department said the alert wasn’t issued because her disappearance didn’t meet the proper state and federal criteria.

Some residents said they were upset over the way police handled the case when the department told the community they had “nothing to worry about” when she was still considered missing.

The Bedford Police Department has issued a statement about the investigation on Thursday. It reads in part:

“We are aware that this ruling may raise concerns with the public for their safety. The Bedford Police Department would like to reassure the public, based on the information we have at this time, there is no threat to the public.”
