Haslet (WBAP/KLIF News) – Construction Crews have hoisted the final support beam into place for a new middle school in the Northwest Independent School District. Adams Middle School will open in the Fall of 2018.
Northwest ISD is one of the fastest growing districts in North Texas. The district covering parts of Tarrant, Denton and Wise Counties has more than 21,000 students and has more than doubled in enrollment since 2010.
Adams Middle School is being built with more open area to allow more work among students to develop problem-solving skills.
“Kids in the 21st century need to be prepared for jobs and careers that we have no idea about,” says Principal Cynthia Webber. “One of the pieces that plays into their instructional environment is space and time for collaborative learning.”
Webber says collaborative learning can help kids learn applications for information they read about in textbooks.
“The Civil War may seem like a far-off notion for some of our kids. What were some of the ideas from the Civil War that we can relate to today? We’re allowing kids that time and that space to learn with and through each other.”
Northwest ISD opened a third high school in 2015. Adams Middle School is being built across the street from VR Eaton High School.
