Austin (WBAP/KLIF News) – President Donald Trump held a teleconference Friday with governors of states that may be affected by hurricanes. The head of FEMA and the acting secretary of Homeland Security also participated in the call.
“Texas is in a constant state of hurricane preparedness, and the safety of Texans is our top priority,” Governor Greg Abbott wrote in a statement.
The governor’s office says the meeting focused on efforts to prepare for a storm and how states would respond and recover from a hurricane. Abbott says his office he talked about the planning and training done by the Texas Division of Emergency Management in case evacuation orders are needed.
The National Hurricane Center is watching two areas in the Atlantic Ocean for possible tropical development. Forecasters say a disturbance in the Caribbean is likely to move into the Gulf of Mexico next week and has a 40 to 60 percent chance of development over the next five days.
