Nearly 150 Allegedly Mistreated Animals Seized in North Texas This Week

Keller Animal Seizure

NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – It’s been a busy week for animal rights-oriented groups in North Texas.

Nearly 150 allegedly cruelly treated animals have been seized in the region this week.

On Tuesday, the Humane Society of North Texas and Keller Police seized over 100 animals were taken from a home on Anita Avenue.

Police were reportedly called to the property after getting reports about an intense odor.

Photos on the organization’s Facebook page show dozens of dogs crammed into filthy crates and a bathtub in the home.

Van Zandt County Seizure

The SPCA of Texas and Van Zandt County officials seized 31 animals on Wednesday.

Maura Davis with the SPCA of Texas said 21 dogs and 10 horses were taken from a property near Canton.

“We found that the animals were held in much less than ideal circumstances. In fact, the animals were malnourished suffering from various things flea infestations and fly bites,” he said.

Davis said these cases are always heartbreaking to witness.

“One of the saddest things I saw was a horse tethered to a tree by a rope that was so short it looked like the horse was unable to reach the ground. It appears that the horse was eating bark from the tree just in an attempt to get some sort of nourishment,” she said.

In both cases, the animals are now receiving medical treatment until custody hearings take place.
