DALLAS, (WBAP/KLIF) – Former Dallas Cowboy Lucky Whitehead speaks out three days after being released from the team.
In an interview with ABC news Whitehead talked about his frustrations about how the organization handled his situation.
“I just got thrown into the wolves, you know like I like I got blindsided. My back was against the wall, you know we preach all of these mantras and they kind of went away from them” said Whitehead.
Whitehead was released on Monday after reports coming from Virginia about his alleged involvement in the theft of a local corner store. He was accused of shoplifting food and drinks from a store, and not appearing at a July 6th court date. He was cleared of all charges by the Prince William County Police Department the following day.
“I think the takeaway from the Whitehead situation is, its important for employers and the public in general not to jump to conclusions, because the first information out from the public authorities maybe incorrect or totally wrong,” Rogge Dunn, of Clouse Dunn lawfirm said.
Cowboys head coach, Jason Garrett, says they were going to waive Whiteheads contract anyway, and that this most recent situation had nothing to do with their decision to release him.
Whitehead could possibly sue the team on a breach of contract claim according to Dunn.
“Depending on what his contract says with the cowboys he might have a breach of contract claim,” said Dunn
Whitehead has yet to say if he will be taking legal action against the Cowboys or the Prince William County Police Department.
Whitehead was recently picked up by the New York Jets.
