PLANO (WBAP/KLIF News) — The North Texas Tollway Authority will be holding a public hearing in Plano Tuesday night to receive input on a major construction project that would add a lane to the Sam Rayburn Tollway going both directions.

Michael Rey is with the NTTA — he says he doesn’t expect a lot of backlash because they plan on adding the lanes from the inside-out.

“Adding a lane from the middle of the roadway, it lessens the impact to traffic during construction, because it’s essentially walled off,” Rey said. “It’s a bit of a narrower area.”

The project would span 26 miles from Central Expressway in McKinney all the way to Business 121 near DFW Airport. It would start mid-2018 and finish sometime in 2021.

“Frankly, I think it should go pretty well,” Rey said ahead of Tuesday night’s hearing. “I don’t think there would be anybody who would object to reducing congestion on the roadway. It’s certainly grown over the years, and it’s getting a lot of traffic.”

The hearing is at 7:00 pm at Taylor Elementary School. For more information on the project, click here.
