Fort Worth Police Warn Residents of Email Scam

FORT WORTH  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Fort Worth Police Department is warning residents about a new scam that involves citizens receiving an email claiming to be from the department asking them to pay for an outstanding parking ticket.

Officer Tracy Carter said the email threatens to have the recipient’s license revoked if they don’t pay.

“There’s only been a few cases. We just wanted to get out in front of it,” said Carter.

He said people need to know they’re being duped.

“The email is not valid and it does not come from us. It looks legit but some of the tall tale signs that it is fake is for instance the word on the driver license is spelled l-i-s instead of l-i-c,” he said.

Carter said there’s a link included in the e-mail where you can pay.

The department wants residents to know that it would never ask a person directly for money.
