Habitat for Humanity Announces Purchase of Lots in South and West Dallas

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity announced Wednesday that it has bought 47 vacated lots in South and West Dallas.

The lots were purchased from HMK Ltd. and will be used as sites for new homes for future Dallas Habitat homeowners. HMK recently gave tenants the options to buy their homes for $65,000 or move out.

“Dallas Habitat is committed to neighborhoods in West and South Dallas,” said Bill Hall, CEO of Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity. “We have served these communities for years, investing millions of dollars, building hundreds of new homes, and repairing several hundred existing homes. The purchase of these homes will help us continue that work.”

The homes will be built over the next several years and then will be available to purchase with mortgage help through Habitat.

Dallas Habitat also announced it is partnering with several West Dallas community organizations to offer homeowners repairs to their homes through “A Brush with Kindness”. The program is intended to help existing homeowners preserve their homes while participating in the revitalization. The program is application based. The organization is offering home ownership education classes which are held at the Dallas Habitat officers four times a year. The classes are intended to help families and individuals become successful homeowners by offering important information and money saving techniques.
