North Texas Traffic Stop Turns Into Proposal

GRAPEVINE (WBAP/KLIF News) – A North Texas woman got the surprise of a lifetime when a traffic stop by a Grapevine police officer turned into a proposal.

The Grapevine Police Department’s Amanda McNew said dispatcher Stephen Smith told his girlfriend, Amanda Radican, that he had to work the extra shift the morning of July 7th.

He left his phone at home on purpose, then tracked it through the “find my iPhone app. He then called his girlfriend and told her that he needed his phone to “clock in” and asked her to bring it to the police station.

Smith then began a ride along with Officer Hale, his cousin. Hale stopped Radican in a parking lot of SH-114 and told her that there was a warrant on her car and asked her to step outside.

Just as she began to cry about the situation, Smith walked up behind her, got down on one knee and explained the warrant was actually her being wanted by him.

Then, he popped the question. Thought tears, Radican responded “I love you” and “yes”.

Police said even thought the traffic stop took less than five minutes, Radican and Smith will have the memory for a lifetime.
