ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – The mother of a 16-year-old boy seen on video being thrown to the ground by an Arlington Police Officer met with Arlington Police Chief Will Johnson Friday about the incident.
Nelson’s attorney, Kim T. Cole, said the Chief mentioned that the Officer may allege assault against her son.
“There could essentially be Assault on a Public Servant charges as well,” said Cole. “So this is what we’re facing.”
Cole said the Officer allegedly claims the teenager brushed his chest during a heated argument between the Officer and the mother. Nelson claims her son was approaching her to try and calm her down. Nelson’s 14-year-old son was taken into custody by the Officer for questioning in a car burglary. When the Officer refused to tell Nelson where she was taking her son she became agitated. Cole said Chief Johnson did acknowledge in the meeting the boy’s destination should have been communicated.
“He actually empathized with Ms. Nelson’s sentiment because they should have advised her or called her to let her know where her son was,” Cole said.
Nelson said the 14-year-old still faces Burglary charges, and the 16-year-old faces charges for interfering. Arlington Police say the Officer’s actions are being investigated.
The Next Generation Action Network will hold a rally Monday night in Arlington demanding the Officer be disciplined.
