DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – DFW residents will reflect on an emotional day a year after the Dallas Police ambush. WFAA-TV and The Creative Arts Center of Dallas are giving people a chance to express their feelings by painting a community mural.
“Art is just a really good way to express feelings that you don’t really have words for,” said artist Lynn Armstrong. “So that was the idea behind this project.”
Five blank panels, honoring the five Officers killed in the shootings, will be set up from 4:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Victory Plaza to be painted by anyone wanting to join in. Armstrong, and artist Katrina Doran will create an interpretative portrait for each of the four DPD officers as well as the DART officer in a way that celebrates each of their lives and allows the community to learn more about them and how each officer lived their life and what they were passionate about.
“We want it to be open to expression,” Armstrong said. “We want people to come in and just paint different things that they are feeling.”
The paintings will be auctioned off at the ‘Celebration of Service Gala’ to raise money for the families of fallen officers.
