Balch Springs Fires Officer Involved in Shooting Death of Teenager

BALCH SPRINGS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Balch Springs police officer who shot and killed teenager Jordan Edwards Saturday has been fired.

Officer Pedro Gonzalez said video shows the vehicle Edwards was riding in was driving away from officers at the time of the shooting.

“Roy Oliver violated several departmental policies,” said Gonzalez who was speaking for Chief Jonathan Haber. “The Balch Springs Police Department on which policies have been violated since Roy Oliver can appeal the termination.”

Oliver had served with the Balch Springs Police Department since July of 2001.

The department has concluded its Internal Affairs investigation and will continue to cooperate with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.
