DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Dallas Police Choir is raising money to sing at National Police Week in Washington D. C. in May.

The choir used their voices to comfort the families of five of their fallen brothers, who were killed by a sniper in downtown Dallas on July 7th, 2016.

Detective Lucy Barnett told WFAA TV she said they hope to use their voices again in memory fallen officers nationwide.

“We want to honor the memories of the officers that made the ultimate sacrifice and the best way that we can do it unlike any other officer is through the choir,” she said.

Barnett said the opportunity is an honor that is bittersweet.

“It’s a very emotional time and for us to be invited to sing at that. It’s going to be difficult to get through,” she said.

The choir has a GoFundMe campaign that has already reached more than half of its $30,000 goal. The money will pay for the flight and hotel costs for the choir’s 28 members.
