ELLIS COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News) – A former Maypearl police chief was sentenced to 40 years in prison for child sex crimes.
A judge slapped Kevin Coffey with the maximum sentenced allowed after a jury found him guilty of sexual assault and indecency with a 14-year-old girl last Friday.
The victim testified that Coffey would kiss her, tough her inappropriately and participate in sexually explicit online video chats with her.
Prosecutors told jurors that a Texas Ranger’s investigation into her claims led to another victim Coffey had an inappropriate relationship with.
That victim testified that the relationship was consensual but that she now feels betrayed by Coffee.
During the trial, Coffey admitted to being a “pervert” but claimed he was innocent of the charges.
He’s also facing similar charges in Johnson and Hill counties.
