At Least 13 Animals Died in Overnight House Fire in Grand Prairie

GRAND PRAIRIE (WBAP/KLIF News) – At least 13 dogs and a number of birds and cats died in a house fire in Grand Prairie Monday night.

The fire broke out around 7 p.m. at a home on North East Fourth Street near Small Hill Drive.

The Grand Prairie Fire Department said the homeowners narrowly escaped as the flames engulfed the home and smoke billowed from the windows.

When firefighters arrived on scene, the homeowner said his wife had gone back inside to try and rescue her pets.

Although more than a dozen animals perished, the woman managed to save six dogs.

She was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation and minor burns. Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
