ROWLETT  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Rowlett Police Department said two suspects were arrested after leading officers on a high-speed chase into Dallas that ended in a fiery crash early Friday morning.

The department’s Detective Cruz Hernandez said a woman called police just after midnight and said her ex-boyfriend allegedly fired shots into her home.

He said when officer attempted to pull the car over, the driver took off but lost control of the vehicle on 75 near Haskell Avenue.

The car crashed into a police and burst into flames. Hernandez said it was a potentially deadly situation.

“Anytime you’re behind a suspect that has opened fire on a residence. Then, you’ve got a situation where the police can be fired upon. The pursuit can lead to other type of danger,” he said.

Hernandez said, in this case, the victim and her family were extremely lucky.

“When you’ve got gunfire being fired in a home that’s got a family in it…a mom and her two children. That is a dangerous situation and it’s not going to have a good outcome.”

Authorities have seen many of these types of situations end tragically. He said everyone involved is fortunate to have come out of this unharmed.

“The two suspects are in custody, they’re not hurt. The residents of the home, they’re not hurt. I think we’ve got the best case scenario here,” said Hernandez.

The identity of the suspects have not been released.
