DALLAS (WBAP & KLIF News) — With the calendar turned to February, more flu cases could be inundating North Texas.
According to Dallas County Health and Human Services, the flu spreads during the end of January and beginning of February more than any other time of the year.
“People are back in school from holidays, back at work, and we begin to see more people because of the cold inside their homes in close settings,” DCHHS Director Zach Thompson said. “That’s contributing to the virus spreading.”
Thompson says one of the biggest culprits in spreading the flu is the idea that people should fight through the symptoms and go to work or school while sick.
“We’re seeing a lot of people who want to be warriors,” Thompson said. “They want to go to work while they’re sick. They don’t want to take off time with flu symptoms. So we’re saying if you have a fever or flu-like symptoms, please do your co-workers a favor and take a few days off to recover.”
So far in the 2016-2017 flu season, Dallas County has seen two flu-related deaths. Both were elderly people hovering around 90 years old.
