A New State Rule Will Require Police to Charge Fee For Body Camera Footage

BODY CAMERAAUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) – Starting Thursday, the state will require people to pay a $10 per video fee for requested body camera footage from the police.

There will also be an additional fee of $1 per minute of footage or audio if an identical copy has not been released to the public yet.

The rule was proposed by the Texas Attorney General’s Office who said the fee is meant to cover the cost of reviewing and making the recording.

Departments around the country have been called upon to use body cameras as a way to increase transparency and police accountability.
