AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) – A state senator from Lubbock has filed a bill to get rid of sanctuary cities in Texas.
Sen. Charles Perry’s measure would require local law enforcement agencies to uphold federal immigration laws.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick announced this week that ending sanctuary cities would be a priority in the next session, which starts in January.
Perry’s bill received a nod from Governor Greg Abbott who said he would sign it.
Legislation banning sanctuary cities has stalled in the past several sessions.
President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to block all federal money for sanctuary cities. Gov. Abbott has said he would do the same.
