Edmond  (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Grand Prairie teacher who threatened that he was capable of a Sandy Hook-style shooting during his divorce proceedings in Oklahoma was found guilty this week.

Christopher Durham isn’t facing jail time but does have to pay a $500 fine. His sentencing is set for Friday.

Durham made the threatening statements in 2013 against a judge and two attorneys. Durham’s own attorney, Chris Reser, turned him in after he made the threats during a phone call.

Durham has been on paid administrative leave from the Grand Prairie School District since October, after a Grand Prairie Collegiate Institute student found out about his arrest online. His one-year probationary contract expires at the end of the school year.

Grand Prairie Independent School District spokesman Sam Buchmeyer said no red flags came up when the district conducted a background check on Durham, who has worked for the district since August.

Before he worked for Grand Prairie ISD, Durham taught at Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth until school officials learned about his history.

District officials allowed him to resign and said they were not required to notify parents or report what they found out to the state.

A Texas Education Agency investigation into Durham is pending.
