Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – Texas US Senator John Cornyn is optimistic about the direction the country is headed now.  He says the American people spoke loudly and clearly on Election Night.

“It’s obvious the American people weren’t happy with the direction the country was going in,” said Cornyn.  “They wanted to put people in charge who would right the Ship of State, and get us heading in a better direction.”

He says he’s optimistic about the chances of expanding the GOP’s majority in the senate in 2018, because senators from 10 states where Donald Trump won by a 55% or better are up for re-election.

Cornyn is also looking forward to working with incoming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York, who he says will be easier to work with then outgoing Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

Cornyn says he’s honored to have been re-elected by his fellow Senate Republicans to be Majority Whip, which is the second ranking party official.

Cornyn says he thinks the first thing Trump will want to do after taking the oath of office is fill the empty seat on the Supreme Court of the United States.  After that, he expects they’ll take up tax reform, repealing and replacing Obamacare, and rolling back executive actions and regulations.
