Austin (WBAP/KLIF News) – Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has published his Top 10 Priorities List for the 85th Legislature, which starts January 10th. In a statement from his office, Patrick said he has a total of about 30 pieces of legislation he wants to see passed, but the Top 10 are as follows:
- A balanced budget proposal for FY 2018-2019
- Property Tax Reform – Texas has the 6th highest property taxes in the nation, and Patrick says that’s making homes unaffordable for many, and acting as a drag on business.
- School choice
- Sanctuary Cities – while the definition of “sanctuary city” is legally vague, Patrick says no city should be able to ignore federal immigration laws.
- Photo Voter ID law
- Women’s Privacy Law – blocking transgender public restrooms.
- Inappropriate Teacher-Student Relationships
- Fetal Tissue/Partial Birth Abortion – increasing the penalty for selling fetal tissue, and banning partial birth abortion.
- Spending Cap – limiting how much state government can spend.
- Hailstorm Lawsuit Reform
Other agenda items Patrick wants to see passed include reducing the cost of handgun licensing, tuition reforms, prohibiting government collection of union dues, and reforms at Child Protective Services.
