The Fort Worth Chapter of the NAACP Weighs In on the Election

I Voted Image 1Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF News) – 7,240 people turned out for early voting at the Forest Hill Civic Center precinct in Fort Worth and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s local chapter hopes to see even more today.

Chapter President Clara Faulkner, a Forest Hill City Council Member, said she had never seen lines that long at that particular precinct.

She said the organization has been handing out voter information to keep the community it serves informed. She said most residents are aware of the issues but don’t feel that either candid addressed them properly.

“When something comes up that even addresses the issues, then the dirty politics start and they jump on something else,” said Faulkner.

She said some voters expressed concern about voter intimidation.

“There have been some we’ve heard terrorist threats, bomb threats. You know, like the last engagement Donald Trump had someone hollered gun. There’s a lot of fear tactics being used right now,” she said.

Although the organization is non-partisan, Faulkner wants voters to understand what is at stake in this election.

“Not only is the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, the legacy of civil rights, the legacy of our now-seated President Obama, the things that he addressed with much opposition, they’re all on the line.”

Faulkner said the NAACP will be giving out free rides to the polls until 6:30 p.m. today. Voters can call the Fort Worth office at 1063 Evans Avenue to arrange a ride.
