Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Next Generation Action Network is calling on the Dallas County Sheriff to release video from a deputy-involved shooting in South Dallas.  Minister Dominique Alexander says deputies used excessive force in shooting Michael Morgan on the afternoon of October 19th.

“We want dash cam video of this shooting,” said Alexander.  “We want the Sheriff, Lupe Valdez, to talk about this.  We know that she’s currently in an election cycle, and she’s being silent about this issue.”

Morgan is accused of running over a deputy’s foot at a traffic stop.  Deputies had tried to serve a warrant on Morgan earlier at a restaurant, but he drove off.  When they stopped him at the corner of Copeland and Lagow, a deputy says Morgan ran over his foot, and fearing for his life, he shot Morgan.

But witness Bryson Kimbrell says that’s not what happened at all.

“Unless the officer’s foot was four feet long, that’s the only way he was in immediate danger,” said Kimbrell.  “The vehicle was already away from them, when he shot.  It was moving away from them.”

Next Generation Legal Advisor Kim Cole says all they want is for video to be released…from dash cams and from store security cameras around the restaurant.

“There’s a consistent problem here with transparency,” said Cole.  “If this does, in fact, end up being a justified event, fine.  But let the citizens of Dallas see that.”
