Sexual Assault Reports at Baylor University Almost Quadrupled in 2015

Waco  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Baylor administrator Shelly Deats credits students’ increased awareness and former Title IX Coordinator Patty Crawford for drawing more attention to the issue of sexual assaults on college campuses.

According to the Waco Tribune, there were 23 rapes reported in 2015 in comparison to six in 2014 and two in 2012.

Crawford’s high-profile resignation earlier this month led to her appearance on “CBS This Morning”, where she told anchors the university “set her up to fail from the beginning” and that she received resistance from senior leadership when she tried to comply with the laws.

The university has been mired in scandal since two football players have been convicted of sexual assault since 2014. President Ken Starr and football coach Art Briles were fired in the wake of the revelations.

An outside review determined school administrators contributed to a hostile environment against assault victims.
