Brenham (WBAP/KLIF News) – The company initially recalled two types of ice cream back in September over concerns that a cookie dough ingredient provided by a third-party supplier, Aspen Hills Inc., could contain listeria. Now, Blue Bell is expanding the recall to all products that contain cookie dough.
According to its website, the company initiated the expanded recall after Aspen Hills Inc. provided more information on affected batches of cookie dough. They said the products already in stores have passed the company’s test and hold program, which requires that finished product samples test negative for listeria. Blue Bell said they’re recalling the products out of caution.
So far, no illnesses have been reported. Last year, a listeria outbreak at Blue Bell Creameries made ten people sick and was linked to three deaths. About four months later, the company resumed production after it implemented an overhaul of its cleaning procedures and employee training and testing programs.
The company lists the flavors that have been recalled on it’s website in a statement.
“This recall includes the following products in half gallons and pints, Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Blue Bell Cookie Two Step sold to retail outlets, and three gallon flavors sold to food service accounts including Blue Bell Blue Monster, Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie, and Blue Bell Krazy Kookie Dough. These products were produced from February 2, 2016 through September 7, 2016.”
Blue Bell encouraged consumers to not eat the potentially tainted products and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
