Kaufman (WBAP/KLIF News) – After decades on the run, Alvaro Iglesias Rodriguez was arrested for murder in Kansas on Wednesday. Police said on June 9, 1994, Rodriguez allegedly shot Francisco Sanchez Salazar 14 times at the City Coin Laundry in Kaufman. Witnesses told police they had seen a man running from the scene with a gun and investigators identified Rodriguez as the suspect.
Kaufman County recently published his name on their “Ten Most Wanted” list in the local paper. Kaufman Police Captain Ed Black said a few weeks after it was published, they received a tip that Rodriguez was living in Wichita, Kansas, under the name “Mauricio San Miguel Reyes.”
Investigators found fingerprints from the arrest record of “Reyes” several years ago and compared them to Rodriguez’s prints. They were a match. Two days after police identified him, Rodriguez crossed the border into Mexico and had not been seen in the United States until this week. Kaufman police detectives flew to Wichita to work on Rodriguez’s arrest. He was taken into custody on Wednesday.
Cpt. Black said Rodriguez’s arrest is proof that the Crime Stoppers program works.
